"Number 13, Fibonacci Sequence, and Pi(π)."

"Kailo, Talita, Lani - All born on the 13th - My sacred number!"
"Kailo, Talita, Lani - All born on the 13th - My sacred number!"

I was drawn to pay attention to the sacred patterns of numbers in Nature when our son and eldest was born. He was born on the 13th and by the age of two, it was evident that he was gifted and talented and highly sensitive (both instinctively and intuitively). My regard for numerology deepened with undeniable curiousity to learn and understand this esoteric science when our second child was born on the 13th, two years after our first. My trust in numerology certainly stabilised when our third child was born on the 13th, 11 years after our first child (and nine years after our second, respectively).

As a side note, the great Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar born in 1887, reminds me of our son in some ways with his beautiful maths mind. This was reinforced by watching Dev Patel's performance of Ramanujan in the movie, "The Man Who Knew Infinity" - Dev physically reminds me of our son in some ways too. Interestingly, Ramanujan's study on prime numbers involves the use of Pi(π). Fibonacci numbers are observed as early as 200 BC in Sanskrit works, and 13 is both a prime number and part of the Fibonacci sequence. Jyotish (Sidereal Vedic Astrology), that I use as a tool with my Blue Sparrow Ayurveda services, is based in Vedic and Sanskrit teachings. Astrology is a reflection of broader patterns of Nature at a point in time, reflecting what I understand to be broader life context; epigenetics in terms of behaviour and environment that shape our individual growth and development. But they are only reflections; we still have to do the work of life.

Like their brother, the creative, artistic skill and talent of our two daughters has increasingly become evident along with their hearts to repurpose, revitalise, and transform what is available at hand into something useful and beautiful. Dhanishtha and the symbol of the drum with universal sound and life-rhythm, is a Vedic Nakshatra our daughters share in individual ways. Our usually quiet eldest daughter instinctively chose to be one of two girl drummers in her senior high school rock band, revealing her inner boldness, courage, and self-expression. She is the illustrator of all Blue Sparrow Ayurveda artworks. Our youngest daughter is a gifted creator with practical initiative to offer, and is a keen photographer with a good eye. I feel blessed to be the mother of my three children.

There is much to be explored about the number 13. I know it is often regarded as unlucky and to be wary of but it is my motherhood path to investigate otherwise. I have experienced that this number comes with deep power and equal challenge that must be managed with self-awareness and self-leadership. The power is spiritual, emotional, mental, physical. As with everything, our life is what we choose to make of it, no matter the circumstance. We have the choice to be self-empowered with everything that is within us to use and contribute. That we choose to use our own nature in ways of well-being, is sensible and towards joy! My family's life-experience is as highly-sensitive, creatively intelligent natures, all three of our children and I, and my husband too in several ways. Interestingly, my husband is born on the 26th (twice 13), and his father was born on the 13th!

It is interesting that "[the number 13 is seen as sacred by some Native American cultures due to its connection with the Moon's cycle (28 days) which is divisible by 13]"; as noted by Steve Jones on his website, hiddensignificance.com. I researched this a little further to understand that 'both the Gregorian and 13 Moon calendars operate with 52 seven-day weeks annually (364 days)' https://lawoftime.org/thirteenmoon/tutorial.html. I also note the reflection of 13 adding up to 4, with 4 being the number associated with the zodiac sign of Cancer, and Cancer being ruled by the Moon. In Jyotish, Cancer is the natural 4th Bhava or house on a birth chart, being associated with heart, home, mother, etcetera). It is no surprise to me that my Jyotish birth chart casts light on me having very strong Moon, Cancer, and Pisces (also associated with the mystical number 13) aspects to my nature. Self-knowledge and self-awareness have been extremely important to me for my inner healing and transformation to step into my wholeness; my whole true self.

I find it all quite fascinating. However, practical spirituality is what I am about! For me, spirituality must make things better somehow. I do this through my way of BEing; living my life-time as sacred, using each day as a precious opportunity for experience to choose, create, and craft for well-being of self and others, using every skill and strength that is within me to give. For me, many of these are inner skills and strengths.

This Zen buddhist proverb is my constant reminder:

"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."

The mundane is never separate from the spiritual or sacred. They walk hand-in-hand, one requiring the other. Inner effort must be made as well as outer effort. And so we see the two fish of Pisces being "in the world but not of the world", straddling the mystical and the mundane; one expressing the other as spirit in form. The old adage, "A mother's work is never done." comes to mind, and there is truth to this in holistic ways of well-being. Nourishment of pure love in all forms is the sacred role of the Mother, particularly inner mental/emotional/spiritual nourishment. We want to nourish each child to know that "everything they need is within them" naturally. Whether it be through providing physical support, homemaking, tangible crafting of nourishment and beauty, or being a safe harbour to talk to and feel seen/heard/understood, mothers are a source and foundation for Life. May all mothers value our chosen sacred role to create, protect, and nourish life to flourish according to its nature, in nature's time, no matter the circumstance.

Whatever your birth numbers are, please value what is within you to give and practise your daily holistic self-care using natural food-as-medicine and behavioural practice. What we do each day creates the quality of our life!

With kindness,
